History of Fake Guitars

2005 - The first Fake Ibanez JEM out ! Was going for about RM500 …Within few months , the demand grew bigger and bigger , price shot up to RM2000 .

2006 - Fake Fenders came out ! Price Tag @ RM1500-RM2000

2007 - Fake Gibsons OUT ! Price Tag @ RM1800-RM2500

Ibanez JEM was discontinued a while (probably because of the crappy floyd quality) whilst Fake Fenders & Gibson are still in production up till today .

I was in KL last Thursday , i saw the new wave of fake Ibanez guitars . Probably from a new Factory .

Oh yeah , i just got myself a new camera Enjoy the new color !

Seriously lor , First time i see an “Offer Banner” from a music shop .

Normally , this kinda “Offer Banner” works for Electronic Products , Camera , Handphones , PC etc…Musical Instruments ??!!?????  New Marketing Style mou !

Okay lah , i was quited scared when i took the pictures . The salesman all looking at me one kind ..wondering what i was doing

The Inlays doesn’t look right . Pickguard screw position too , but it isn’t that obvious …The floyd looks like shit .

Ibanez Logo Curve and RG Series Fonts . Headstock also abit out …

Interesting thing is , the back logo serial number thing looks “quite” convincing . It says “Made in Indonesia” though . I got a feeling it is made in China . Buta buta Indonesia kena ..hahaha!

The giveaway : The Neck Joint.

So yeah , i know this was an easy one .

…But that is not the point of this post .

To be honest , this shop is located in Jalan Pasar .

The “audio boys” that usually do Mixers , PA systems are starting to see potential in fake guitars in Malaysia . They are bringing it in .

The fake guitar plague , is coming !

You can’t stop them . (Sound & Lights Companies are Big Players in the importing & exporting industry . Most companies are rich with TONS of connections)

You can’t fight them .

All we can do , is create awareness . Let your friends know ..especially the beginners to watch out !

To make sure no seller tries to pass a fake guitar as the original .

To make sure buyers pay for what is worth .

You know what’s going through my mind ?

I thought to myself , (judging by the sales person) these guys have no experience or whatsoever in selling guitars ..chances are , the guitar is going to be screwed in 3 months .

What if the buyer comes back and claims for warranty . Who are they going to send it to ? Do they even have an after sales service ?

I got a feeling Music Master’s repair shop is going to be busy . Unless we reject all of them of course . Maybe we should charge a premium , double the price if it is a fake guitar

What you are .

You know , i get questions like these all the time …

1) Clement , Why do you play the guitar ?

2) Clement , Why do you need SO many guitars ….?

3) Clement , Why do you shred ?

4) Clement , Why are you into Music ? Why not fishing  ?

All of these questions , were asked by non musicians . Sounds familiar ?

I am sure , many of you (musicians) …experienced the same thing like i did. People asked us why do we like something they don’t like . Maybe they are jealous because we have something they don’t

Funny thing is , non musicians will NEVER understand us . While another musician perfectly understands what we are and who we are . Non musicians don’t really get what GAS is all about , Why do we need to have so many guitars , or what a beautiful complicated song is all about . We Musicians have this mutual understanding on good music , good guitars and GAS .

So , back to the question , how do you answer a question like this ?

Think about it , there are NO proper answers . Most of the time , people will go ..“Its my passion and what i like to do” . Which will lead to more confusion .

The best answer for this is ..“Because i am a musician”

This is Who i am . This is MY NATURE . So , why are you questioning my nature ? I love music , I love playing , i am BORN to love it . I am sorry if you do not understand it .

You see , the same thing goes when people question God & Religion .

Why did God create humans ?

If God knows the past and the present  , he already know by creating humans , some will make it to heaven , some will go to hell …and he LOVES us . Why create humans in the first place ? Doesn’t make sense .

The answer is , because God is a creator . It is HIS nature to CREATE . That is what God is .

Its like asking an artist , “why do you draw?” .

Okay , i get this question really really alot …“Why am i so random?”

and also “Why gapnap.com has soooo many random things ?” which is about the same ..

Because , i am a man with imagination . This is who i am . A certain something that I happen to have in abundance ….. imagination .

Being Random , is being unpredictable . Being unpredictable is IMAGINATION .

Okay lah , i admit that speech was to counter all you technical , robotic math genius..which is something i lack of..

Back to religion and creation , i’ve heard many theories about evolution . Let us put science & religion aside on this .

The reason i do not accept everything happens by chance , is because i have imaginations . I believe in imagination cause it live inside me . Evolution exist , but it is a process , guided by a higher being or a smarter being with abundance of imagination .

When you say , everything is a coincidence and everything happens by chance . You are also saying , there is no imagination ..
