Long time go … when i was so into achieving xxx note per second , or mastering string skip tapping .i realized ..

i tend to forget about the small simple stuff that makes a great guitarist …and worse , i gave up something that i had been doing pretty well (such as Vibrato) Just to improve my tapping speed ..and suddenly i realized i can’t vibrato the way i used to

you might wanna check this list once in every 2 weeks to remind your shredder ass what is important

OUR USEFUL REMINDER . IF there is TOO MUCH SHRED in your life . You might forget this .

1.Dynamics

How predictable for me to say this , yeah . Thing is …when all you think is shred shred shred shred ..you just want to shred everywhere and everytime

even a simple blues / pop slow song ( that requires a more slower and tasteful solo) you STILL NEED TO SHRED ..its like a drug eh ?

2.Pausing .

One thing about shredders while they improvise , they don’t pause . They think that every second they need to hit 10 note and stuff ..

pausing at the right time , holding the right note speaks so much more than that 16 note you played in a second

3.Vibrato

As you grow older , you know that a guitarist’s vibrato tells you MANY things . from his Maturity to his technique to his phrasing .Make sure you get that SUPER SWEET VIBRATO . think Vai , Malmsteen .

4.More Theory , Modes , and Jazz Improvisation

yeap yeap .Dont forget that new scale position , Don’t forget that new Gmaj13 arpeggio , how to use it , when to use it . take a break from a metronome and start doing theory homework !

Your practice routine shouldn’t be all about speed and technique !!

5.Don’t be a guitar nerd

get yourself a chick . Get a life .Go to parties , Life is not all about shred and guitars

because this isn’t gonna happen

6.Showmanship

Okay , many of you guys know that i actually hate Dragonforce . But 1 thing about Hermain Li and sammy is they have quite a good showmanship ..its not easy to have great showmanship and shred at the same time . so this… i have to give it to them .

7.Song writing skills

Writing a song doesn’t mean writing a shred instrumental songs . Learn to write everything , blues , pop song , LYRICS ( No , its not the singers responsibility to write the lyrics , If you can run out of ideas while composing a solo , your singer can run out of ideas too ) Don’t be a player that plays and contributes nothing
