Shred : The basic concept. get this wrong you go for the hard way. part 2
Ok continuing from part 2 .We were talking about the Inner Game and the Outer game .Click here for part 1
So the trick of IMPROVING is . YOU HAVE TO BE BALANCE IN BOTH WAYS .

yes , like this . EXACTLY what i call BALANCE ! Perfect BALANCE !!!
Question: gapnap you noob , have you heard of
if you improve on your weakness , you just become an average player
if you improve on your strength , then you can become great
Yes i do . In fact , i think the concept above is a great concept . However , in order to do that , you need to have this minimum benchmark-lah ..
Just say you are good in alternate picking , so you work on it everyday . At the end of the day , you are just another crazy alternate picker , who will have no idea when it comes to Jazz , or somebody who contributes NOTHING when it comes to song writing . So , you need to have SOME LEVEL of Theory , Song Writing skills and other stuff . Then you can focus on your strength . Get my point ? Be Balance FIRST . Then be special .
I swear i am not talking about Rusty Cooley
Next , i am going to show you two extreme sides of Inner game and Outer game (shredders)
1.Strong Outer Game , Weak Inner game .
A player that plays a cover NOTE FOR NOTE .Guess what? thats the only thing he can do that . Think Vai / Malmsteen Clone . Give him a SUPER tough riff , or a tough song . He will be able to master it note for note within a few days . But , getting him to improvise-so-that-he-don’t-sound-like-his-idol (vai , malmsteen) is something impossible for him to do
2.Strong Inner Game , Weak Outer game ( dangerous! because it is hard to change a person’s point of view ) *btw this was my problem .
A player that is STRICTLY against playing Covers . He needs to play “his own thing” . He always emphasize on originality , creativity . He is too lazy to learn Cover songs .
He is able to pull off hard techniques such as Sweep picking , string skip tapping , alternate picking .He thinks just because he can pull off a few hard licks , means he can HANDLE any SONG if he wanted to and if he put the effort . Problem is , he havent even try and he jumps into conclusion . Say a Rusty Cooley cover note for note , he thinks he can , but fact is, he can’t handle it because in the first place he is not willing to put any effort into it . This type of players are pain in the ass in a band because he just wants it his way
Do not be either one of them . instead ,
be a player that can handle criticism ,be humble , handle covers , be creative and be a guitarist that is able to contribute to a band.
Well , i hope this post show ya’ll aspiring shredders a bigger picture on your strength and weaknesses , what to work on, improving and stuff ,what type of guitarist you should not be .etc….more tips will be available in the future
