Okay. 1 of my readers suggested that i should write about some Shred tips and focus more about Shred . Fine no problem . This is for you .

My Shredding tips , is not those typical USE A METRONOME , warm up before shredding, get a guitar teacher boring-too-common tips . Most of you guys know that i am very into the “INNER GAME” of shredding . You might wanna read this to understand INNER GAME before we proceed . Most of my tips are aimed towards improving our Inner game .

Useful Shredding tips

1.Whenever you discover a cool lick , or whenever you are driving , you get inspired or you have that “AHA” moment (new idea) for a song .

WRITE IT DOWN . What you heard , Your ideas . EVERYTHING.

Problem with Many of Us . When we improve , we tend to focus on what we are INTO now , and forget about our older ideas , or what made us good and unique in the first place.

Thats why , WRITE IT DOWN . Have a compilation and a collection of ideas , so that you can remember your CURRENT ideas , at the same time , not forgetting your Past ideas

2. Record your playing EVERY year .

Whether it is an improvisation , a cover or anything.

The idea is to see how much you had improved over the last 3 years , or 1 year or so . And to preserve your past ideas , so that you won’t forget em’

3.Meet more shredders

You heard of a saying that goes , to be successful , you need to interact with successful people

same concept , when 5 power shredders get together for a jamming session or teh-tarik session . Everybody exchange ideas and stuff , yeah you learn SO MUCH more than watching youtube.

Find shredder friends like this . You have 2 reasons to hang out with her

4. Do not Be an internet lick shredder

let me tell you something , All of our playing is the same . Why ? cause most of the licks we learned are all from the internet ..

Who doesn’t Sweep the A minor arpeggio from the 8-12 fret , or the 12-17 fret

Who doesn’t know the same 8-10-12 C major shape scale ..

Most of this pattern are popularize in the internet , and it has influenced you .

I have my “teh-tarik session” with actual Guitar Heros from Malaysia , (all old fellers lah ) Back In the 80′s ,when internet doesn’t exist. things were much harder

the only way this people learn their guitar is by hearing , experimenting and trial and error.

i realized their sweep licks , major scale pattern are SO DIFFERENT than mine .It is more “weirder”. And guess what , it actually defines their style and make them a very unique player .

and when i am with my younger shredder friends (all internet wankers) , our sweeps , our licks are all the same . GO OUT THERE AND GET EXPOSE !!
