Me and the Malaysian Underground Music Scene

So , i was pretty much into the Malaysian Underground Music Scene from 2004-2006 ? or something like that ..lol..i left everything for the Events and Pub scene ..never look back since.

No , i am not saying that Malaysian Underground Scene sucks …in fact , i meet loads of people , made loads of friends ..i even found some super guitar heroes there that taught me many things..

……..but i just didn’t think being Indie is for me you know ..Underground scene is not for every musician..agree?

to be more specific ,

Okay , lets start with this , Both events scene and underground has its politics lah ..

the main difference between events, pubs and underground is ..

1.Pub and events , is all about money . Playing what people want to hear , playing what the crowd wants , oh yeah , i think pub and events will always have better sound systems ..lol..

2.Underground mostly based on own compositions . People wana get their music heard . This is why you seldom find event bands have their own myspace account and if an indie band doesn’t have a myspace account , then they got problem-lah .

So my point is , people at the Underground scene isn’t that shallow .They actually have a Passion in what they are doing , they actually have other purposes besides making money . Their politics is ALOT about relationships , this feller backstabbing here and there , this band said something that the other band didn’t like on the stage ..

and i suck at relationships.i am not the super social whore that could go around and mix with everybody.

If i am gonna be in the indie scene , i am so gonna be that arrogant bastard who turns up for gigs and never says hi . I am not going to survive in the indie scene

However , some of you guys know that i studied accounting . Events and pubs is about Contracts , Negotiations , Managers , Agents , market …yea..you know it . So i actually find myself very comfortable handling money , signing agreements , marketing my band and stuff ..In other words , this thing is more for me lah ..

The politics in events and pubs , is alot about changing bandmates , money and market trend . In Event and pubs , your bandmate is not your real bandmate you know ? Especially your frontman and singer …its like a company ..we hire singers , when they aren’t exciting anymore , we get another newer , hotter singer….

you just need to send him an email of this image to fire your bandmate off . no Emotional baggage

If i have a regular pub job that pays me RM150 per night , and suddenly i got an offer to play at genting for 1 night at RM400 . I will hire another guitarist , pay him RM100 and ask him to ‘cover the night for me’….keep the RM50 as agent commission..and go genting grab the RM400..yeah..so the politics starts from there..

but i think ultimately , every musician wants to have their own songs , own albums and stuff yea ?

and my weakness is , i cannot compose very good songs …aih..dono how ..emo ..anyway , my next post will be about something me and teko came out with ..lol..
