The 10 commandments of the Malaysian Underground Music Scene

Thanks to my pal , Teko from Serpent Ash , here is a little something.. me and him came out with over msn ..hehe..

Okay , the 10 commandments ..

1.Say “Good show” to people you don’t know , after they perform

2.Say “You’re the best bro” to people you know , after he/she perform

Just do it , everybody is doing it

GOOD SHOW TO YOU TOO BORAT

3.If the band sucks , compliment them on something unrelated

eg . Dude , nice guitar !

don’t specify ..leave the compliments open ..you want him to think that his guitar playing is nice

you do not want him to think that you are complimenting his guitar only , not the playing ..

4. Metal is the crowd’s music . Never , diss metal

Metal is like a religion . People die for it everyday .So , never diss metal .

behold , the METAL ARMY

5.Its a networking business

Buy their albums so that they will buy yours too

You play for their band , so that they will play for yours too

You kiss my ass , i will kiss yours too

try to avoid the politics tho

this is how things work in the underground , you get the idea

6.Never wear a bright color shirt …light Green , Pink , Light blue is a NO-NO . Wear black .

God help him when he enters the gig

7.Underground scene norm : Pay cover charge , get your free beer , find a place to sit , and never finish your beer . make sure your beer last until the show is over

never finish it ! Don’t look like a cheapskate ..sitting on a table without a drink is cheapskate ..

8.Never pick up chicks in a gig .

Look bro , single chicks goes to a CLUB , not a PUB / GIG . So , if you see a chick there , chances are , she’s taken . She’s there to support her Bf , She’s not feeling horny and lonely .

However , If you happen to find a hot chick that is single and things are going a lil too smoothly ,its either she’s a she-male , or a prostitute

you don’t want her jealous rambo alike bf to catch you picking his “the one” up .
you don’t want yourself to get “pick-up” by an ambulance later on

9.When people ask you to Pinjam them Strap , Cables or Tuners . Do it . It is not a request. It is an order

You don’t want people to label you arrogant

behind your back

10.Never show off too much .

That means , ton down your skills abit . Don’t let other guitarist get threatened by you . Cmon’ , there will be always a “who’s the best guitarist” competition around . And the current winner WILL NOT be happy if he suddenly becomes number 2 .Soon you will see lots of rumors , politics and fingers pointing at you .

You want to stay around ? be humble and nice .

……and Don’t try too hard to show off …

Kindly reupdate your blog so no one gets misinformed in case ppl might actually go there and see nothing.

  7. WTTF ! what happened ? budget problem ?

  8. yeah..something like that..not appropriate to discuss that here..
anyway congrats on your EMERGE gig ..sounds big!

  9. oh icic..talk on msn mou ? lol..

anyway i don’t blame him lor …the organizer have to rent the whole venue on a Saturday Nite (more ex , sommore club ..) ..plus free flow of beer

i think its gonna cost him a super 5 figures ..that is tough to cover ..lol

  10. People want to pinjam my cable I said no, if they want to say that I’m arrogant, I’d say they are stingy or even worse you play guitar no cable one kah. There’s even people who wants to borrow guitars, simple no will do. Underground also got politics one. The other band don’t like the other band etc etc it sucks but that’s life politics existed everywhere even for musicians pub, it’s even more worse with pub musicians, I know my dad is a fulltime musician and he face all kind of shit cos money is involved.
