some of you who know me..i am a sucker for sweep tapping and string skip tapping..

totally love the sound and the feel ..anyway..

..here’s a player that inspired me ALOT ..right after Zack Kim..some might find his licks similar to mine (cause i copy him lah , duh )

This virtuoso is a super underrated guitarist , endorsed by Ibanez and Dimarzio..still my hero till today…may i present

His Influence over me

1.I use my middle finger to tap like him , and use my thumb and index finger to hold the pick while tapping.

i used to tap with my index finger , what i learned is to achieve maximum tapping speed and control by using the middle finger ..

2.Totally got the idea of 2 notes per string tapping from him ..

speaking about stealing licks …

i think we guitarist should steal licks from guitarist that are less popular …

i mean ..think about it ..if we always use Malmsteen’s lick ..other guitarist are going to label us as “Malmsteen clone”

just like Man Keedal .hehe

Just say i copy Magnus Olsson’s lick , and i use it very frequently ..my friends don’t know who the hell is Magnus Olsson ..so they are gonna call it the “gapnap signature lick” right ? which is totally not true ..but ahh..just get the credit lah ..;) somebody from a local power metal band always tell me  ..fake it til you make it mou

Here are some guitarist , that i suggest you DO NOT COPY AND NEVER STEAL THEIR LICKS .

He’s the most common lah ..

Next to Malmsteen ..super common

Now now …you see ..the point is ..when you are just starting out to play …on an amateur level…you can call it “I am inspired by Steve Vai” or whatever shit lah ..

but as time goes by ,you improve and you slowly become a pro.. people will start labeling you as a “Steve Vai Clone” ..and shit such as lack of creativity , not versatile and stuff comes in ..

so in the end , i think the best way is ..steal a little bit from everybody ..do not get obsess and focus too much on ONE guitar hero …there are many fishes in the sea
