Okay , Firstly . The title of this post supposed to be

How to practice sweep picking

that was 3 days ago lah..

I’ve been thinking about this question for the past few days..sweep pick sweep pick sweep pick…

..until become sweep pig mou?

i was thinking..how to practice sweep pick ? MCH , What other way ? The only way is to start from slow and wank Metronome wurt , that was what i went through…

and after my super gapnap meditation.. I’ve conclude that ..how to practice sweep picking isn’t the right question lah..

The REAL question should be ..a lil bit more detailed..

1.How do I sweep pick CLEAN (muting)

2.How do I apply sweep picking into my playing

3.How do I practice my speed and control

1 and 2 , is more of a … “i know it and i get it” thing…the moment you can sweep pick clean and the moment you know how to apply it , you do not need to practice it anymore . make sense?

The only thing you need to practice is , 3 …your speed and control ..right ?

Here is my take on practicing:

The most productive way of practicing (in General) is ..

Turn on your radio , go for Light and Easy or Mix FM . Hear that unknown song . Find out Whatever key that song is playing . Find out the Chords

Then proceed to what you want to practice , whether it is ..

1.Sweep pick the chords

2.Tapping

3.Improvisation and Solo

4.Hearing ( finding out the melody of the song)

5.Alternate pick Arpeggios

Of course , you don’t do it blindly , you gotta follow the tempo , experiment the scales and arpeggios etc ..

***p.s . doesn’t work for everyone ..especially beginners . this is more of a intermediate guitarist thingy lah..like i said before lah , different methods work for different people

Okay , this method did worked for me ..as well as a few close friends of mine who are fantastic players..

Why is this method the best ? (in my opinion & debatable)

Because it is a package ..not only you get to practice your technique (with different tempo and different keys every 5 minutes)

You also get to

1.Train up your hearing technique

2.Song Composition and Arrangement

3.It is not boring . Practice should never be boring .

4.Find out what is cool this days ( For Fly FM lah )

5.For the first time , you are forced to play in Eb major and F# major ..otherwise you will be wanking on A minor and E minor only..i know..i know..

If you are teaching or playing for a pub , better . you have something new to teach and play every time you practice !  yay ! .

Question : gap , why can’t i open my winamp and do the same ? same thing right?

No , it is different . Because Winamp is predictable , you know what song , what key and what tempo you are going to play ..even if you go on random  , soon you will get bored and start jamming your favorite songs .You will be playing on Eric Clapton – Wonderful tonight and Smoke on the Water Forever ..

Radio is unpredictable , You will never know what will come up next . If you are bored you can try MTV too , then you get to see some chicks on MTV ..

Anyway , MTV is not important. Do you get the concept ?

You need to follow-something .Get out of that comfortable key you always play.You need to make your practice interesting.You need something UNPREDICTABLE.

This concept can be applied in most areas of guitar playing …techniques , skills anything ..

You can even practice your classical pieces on pop songs ( by using the Chord behind the note method , hehe..my students will know what I’m talking about )

Anyway , so that concludes pretty much the whole thing on ..

2.How do I apply sweep picking to my playing
