Fake it till you make it

So , how many of you guys are against Fake it till you make it?

You think it is a Short Cut ? a Cheating technique ? i agree .

Well , surprisingly .. i am a BIG FAN of Fake it till you make it ..

weird huh?

Like i said , different guitarist , different style of learning ( that is the reason why we get guitar teachers )

If you are a guitarist that think ,

“Damn , i can never be like that ..that is wayyyyyy over my level”

“I suck man , i damn lousy , cannot shred , cannot sweep pick ”

“i am at a stage where i can no longer improve anymore”

I am telling you right now , “fake it till you make it” is the BEST and the MOST EFFECTIVE way for you to learn .

Because all you need is , that little bit of motivation and inspiration .

You need to change your perspective from fake it till you make it is “cheap and cheating” to

“fake it till you make it” is just a learning process ..

Now we’re talking differently huh?

I used to play fake cheating sweep picking , what i do is i play the low notes and the high notes only ,  ignoring the notes in between , and play it really really fast . So that it sounded full . People get the impression that i am sweep picking for real ..

Yeap , i was faking it ..

But , by faking it . It Gave me Hope and inspiration ..I thought to myself ..

“Hey , i am 60% there , all i need is to master that FINAL 40% , and i will !  finally get to SWEEP PICK FOR REAL”

You see , man cannot live without HOPE . HOPE is something so powerful and influential , that it could change one’s life .

So , i continued , and practiced harder . In the end , i got it .

Of course , if the traditional “start slow with a metronome and build up speed” works for you . (You are a very patient person) then skip this whole “fake it till you make it” learning technique ..

Or if you’re the type of person who thinks ” i am the best and the greatest ” , then yeah , fake it till you make it will not work for you too..

But if you’re the type , that has low confidence , always think that there is no hope..and you are faced with this BIG CHALLENGE . Such as a tapping , sweep picking , string skip tapping , or even playing Jazz ..

then..fake it till you make it

Fake it till you make it is a common catchphrase that means to imitate confidence so that as the confidence produces success, it will generate real confidence.
