Actually , i was kinda “there” on his album release date . Me and my gf were lepaking at Starhill that day . Then suddenly we saw shitloads of people dressing in tux and stuff . And hey ! it was Dennis Lau ..
But we didn’t bother lah , Lets just say we were more impressed with the price tag of the clothes there 
. My first impression was ..“sure or not , handsome musician can play ? “

THAT MALAY DUDE ( not good looking ) plays SO MUCH better than Dennis Lau .Look at his off timings , his improvisation ..that kinda shit are the ones you hear on TV .
And speaking about Dennis Lau’s finger tone ..WTF was that man ? some squeeky shit going on ?
Clearly , experienced player playing against an inexperienced player . That video was like FAT ASS PAWN THE LENG CHAI .
Ok ..to be honest , pity Dennis Lau lah ..Because of Kennysia’s blog , the whole world is bashing him …what can you learn from this video ?
When you are the star , you are the star . You hire people who pawns you . You become the lousy star . That is what i called EPIC FAIL .
Its like , say a random punk n00b guitarist released a solo album . and he pays Steve Vai or a top class musician to be his sessionist and play side by side with him . hmmmmm…
Don’t get me wrong , there are plenty of SOLO Artists who hires people who are better to play for them. If they are better than you , its fine …If Jabba the Hut is *SLIGHTLY* better than you . Its fine . But if JABBA THE HUT is 100x better than you , like TOTALLY PAWN YOU. You might wanna avoid that , BAD , SAD , SITUATION .
Well , sorry Dennis Lau . You asked for it . Plus , i think that song that you “wrote” is kinda Gary Moore , Santana ..the typical Am-Dm-G-C-F-Dm-E kinda formula crap . Sounds like Santana El Farol .

i thought it was an okay performance… very suitable for Starhill atmosphere. lol. But i wouldn’t buy his cd - apparently its his looks that sell, not his skill.

Saw him performing more than 2 years ago in Bangsar (some pub near the old GenX cybercafe). He did something like the previous post, performing side-by-side with a DJ. At that time i thought his timing was amateurish, his playing was inconsistent (sometimes got semangat, sometimes very lemah) and above all he didn’t look comfortable/natural (as if he was fighting with his violin).
I’m too bloody lazy to watch those youtube vids above, but it sounds like he hasn’t improved after 2 years ;-P

On the contrary, I happen to think John Petrucci is good looking…and certainly a good musician! What do you have to say about that mou? Let’s not forget Alexi Laiho as well!

i found the composition pretty ok, but the playing amateurish at best….

the bright side is that its good that people that can influence are supporting the local music scene. cant really blame kenny as he isnt a musical person.
maybe its a live show so i’ll give this fella some slack. but still, as a former violinist, his bow technique ada problem la. and not to mention his intonation and timing.
i actually feel sorry for him. memang obvious kena pawn by the malay fella.

vincent : gapnap isn’t the type of guitarist that make you go WOW THAT IS THE BEST EVER .Everybody who read this blog knows this. What gapnap is , is a great teacher and he gives inspiration to players who are like us . Good videos are everywhere in youtube . But a video or a blog post that gives you that moment ? rare . i do not see the point of comparing yuri vs gapnap . Both of them are at a different level .
