Business is Business . But You Still Need Talent .
random thoughts :
LOL . My friend told me something really interesting .
He said “photography is for losers . It is for people who cannot make it to the pictures
You should be the celebrity IN THE PICTURES . Not the guy who takes them .” LOL
This post is dedicated to all the Businessman Musicians and all of you who are involved in Sales & Marketing .

I define a Businessman Musician as:
A musician who is somewhat well-to-do in the music industry .
Getting paid above market rate & regular gigs .
He thinks that his skill is “good enough” to be a “professional musician” just because he is getting paid .
He tells you “everybody CAN PLAY . When you go pro, it’s not about how well you play , but WHO YOU KNOW”
Sounds familiar ? Businessmen always talk like that , “its not what you know , but who you know”
So the businessman musician STOPS IMPROVING his skills . Instead , he concentrates on his CONTACTS and NETWORK . Which is not wrong , he just wanna cari makan right?
But i strongly believe , Business is business , but you still need Talent .
You stop practicing , you can lose your talent . Then , you lose your job . That time , Don’t go cry like a little girl and complain the world is cruel .
.

Story about A 5-piece band ,
The singer was the front man and the MANAGER . He was the guy who talks to big clients and grab that high paying gig . He was the band leader .
The singer , the guitarist and the bassist were SO-SO Above average players . Three of them were good friends . Let us call them “the 3 rockstars” .
The keyboardist and the drummer were the best musician among them . They had the talent. They were the guys that made the band sound good , They were the backbone of the band . But they weren’t into money making , they were into the music and the experience . They trust the singer and let him manage their cash flow .
After a gig , while the 3 rockstars get drunk and have fun , the drummer and the keyboardist would brain storm for their next show , manage the songs , arrange the songs , plan for the next show , decide the ending of the song , compose a new song and practice together .
Everybody’s impression was the singer , the guitarist and the bassist were THE STAR and THE TALENT .
Singer , guitarist and bassist got a little arrogant .
They thought , “Hey , keyboardist and drummer , they are only playing rhythm . Nonsense . WE ARE THE FACE OF THE BAND . We should get MORE PAY than THEM . And we are MORE POPULAR TOO “
3 of them decided to Kick the keyboardist and drummer out of the band (the talent) because of money . They hired a cheaper , average musician to take their place… after all , it was only the rhythm work right ?
The whole thing went well for the first few gigs .They were earning ALOT MORE money since they were getting the other two musician’s cut . After a while , the 3 asked themselves “hey , why arent we getting any new materials to play ? what was the ending of this song again ? where’s the lyrics? What time is band practice ”
All sort of problems came about . on the 6th or 7th show , they screwed up . Their reputation got ruined . And that was the end of their band .

You see , i understand , business is business . You need to put FOOD on the table . But you shouldn’t neglect your talent. Both business and talent works as a TEAM .
In an IT company , you have the technical guy and the marketing guy . Sometimes , the marketing guy will feel as if he has done all the work (sale) , and pay the technical guy too high . No , you work as a team . You need talent .
In conclusion , you have to appreciate when somebody does things for you . How long can you go solo ? Its all short term gain ..long term loss .

Sort of reminds me of the story of the ass-hole. They laughed at him when he said he could be boss too. Then he clamped up…
