Would you Compete , or Chill ?
You compete with the best , you get pawn . The feeling of getting pawn isn’t nice . But you learn.
You Chill , you stay the same , you don’t Improve . But you’re happy . You Enjoy .
Okay , please don’t give me lame ass answers such as
“It depends”
“I Compete and I Chill at the same time”
“I enjoy competition”
You may enjoy the competition FOR NOW , But you haven’t taste the NO WORRY STRESS FREE kinda relaxing life before . Don’t believe me ? Try take 1 month break , No handphone , No Internet and stay in a Kampung or a Beach Side . Everyday you wake up , see the sunrise , drink your cup of Latte , see the chick that goes jogging in the morning ….I am telling you that life PAWNS your “i am going to get that contract” life anyday .
(okay okay , that is just my opinion ok?)
Honestly . The correct answer is still the lame ass answer , “It depends” . There are things in life we compete , and there are things in life we chill .
For me , i would like to think that i am very competitive in business .
But i am very chilling when it comes to Music and my playing skills . (Oh shit , thats the reason i stop improving)
Some people view it as a process . You know , when you just started , you compete , such as you compete in American Idol when you are a noob . Once you MAKE IT (think Kelly Clarkson) , you chill and enjoy .
My band is the chilling type . (But i am not saying we already MAKE IT thats why we chill , we are still a small pawn in the whole chess game)
Our last night’s gig .
We practiced the night before the event . from 10pm-11pm . Played 3 songs only . And We ended up playing 8 songs on that night .
Where did the other 5 songs came from ? Yeap , right out of our ass . My 2 bandmates , Last minute planning and arranging the flow . Without trying .
…but it still sounded OKAY . I think .
cos got me mah..chehh.

I think my band’s problem is …We don’t compete .
That is why we are the same , 2 years ago and now . Nothing has changed .
Playing the usual top 40 songs . I think we need to take up some challenging shit . Symphony X or Dream Theater or something .
We are always THE ONLY BAND of the night (because we are event specialist). I think if we were to perform in an indie gig that has 20 bands performing. We confirm kena pawn upside down .
I always tell my students , you wanna improve fast ? Get a group of guitarist friends . Make sure you all compete . (Now you know the reason why you’re not improving?)
Singapore is wayyyyy further ahead of Us , because they compete . We don’t . We think we got oil then we owning . Hire consultants and let money work for you ? Can , but you don’t learn and you noob LOR . End of the day , you don’t know shit .
On the other hand , some say we should not compete our passion . We should enjoy our passion .
What is there to prove ? Why do you care about what people think ? Just do what i like lah ? Whats wrong with that ? Why put unnecessary stress on yourself ?
So , do you think we should compete our passion ? or enjoy it ?

imo, my passion of playing guitar is not to compete. but you can still improve by focusing on what you lack..rather trying to be…I CAN SWEEP PICK BETTER THAN YOU.

i think the question is – it depends what you are trying to achieve at the end of the day.
but when u hv passion, u already can win over some people who are competing, but w/o passion.
so yeah, if u wanna b better than others, u hv to compete lo. if u just enjoy what u r doing, and not comparing with other ppl, then why bother?

@Alvin. You sure about people who have passion winning people who are competing ? I think its the other way round bro …You will always see a bigger picture , when you’re not “into” something . Thats why people win forex on those free trial machine easier , compared with real life . Anyway , that brings us to a whole different question too , how do we define win ? whats happening now ? whats happening in the long term 10 years time ..

my part, i enjoy my passion. and bringing my passion to greater heights. not to compete, but to satisfy myself. that would satisfy me
maybe, a person’s level of passion differs from one to another. some people would content by having the fun of being able to strum along to their favorite tunes, which would be enough, while others may have that need to be able to shred like their guitar hero to satisfy their passion.

@vincent . There is no such thing , as the maximum level of your strength . Why ? Records are made to be broken . You should always take your strength to another level . Best in Selangor , Best in Malaysia , Best in South East Asia , Best in Asia , and Best in the world ..etc.
