Guitar Shops in Beijing

Welcome to BEIJING STREET OF GUITAR !

Location : xin jie kou

Start out from xi dan train station. find a place called Joy City. Then walk North. After you pass a large intersection, there will be many music shops, all the way to ji shui tan.

Anyway , this is the FIRST time i’ve been to SO MANY guitar shops in a day . Pecah record really …

How many you ask ? I am talking about 40-50 Shops . NO SHIT . 40-50 ! Sounds like heaven eh ?

Okay , normally . I will blog out about each and every guitar shop individually ..what they carry etc ..

But not for this one . It is just TOO MANY . REALLY .

…and if you’re thinking this shops are selling fake stuff..you are wrong ! This street is where many reputable music shops , all gather at one area ..

Of course , there are a few that sells fake stuff ….generally , the bigger shops seem to be OK .

My thoughts :

Okay lah , this is the first time i felt that a guitar street is overrated .

Why ?

Think walking through Petaling Streets …at first it is exciting…soon , you realized that ALMOST EVERY SHOP sells the same thing.

Fender , Gibson , PRS , Epiphone ..all the “famous” brand . That is why i don’t bother to blog about each shop . Because you enter one , you enter everything .

I was working with a shop around the area . Unlike other shops , The Shop carries Dean , Orange , Musicman and AMT ..the”non sell out” brands..

The owner is a cool dude . Plays for a famous metal band in Beijing .  Does this business for fun .

According to the him , most of this music shop owners on the street are NOT Musicians .

They are like RICH Tycoons n China . They realized the Music Scene is picking up in China …decide to Wholesale all the famous brands ..

Put it all in a shop , put some signboard , endorse some artist and call it a Music Shop .

True enough , when i enter …it feels like going to Lowyat plaza to buy some computer gear .

People who are working there aren’t musicians at all . Straight away ask me “You like that one ? very cheap , i give you 1800 RMB “

When you wanna walk away ..“Okay lah , 1500 RMB …wan or not?”

“you give me best price”

Its PURE market place business . Like going to the pasar , bargaining stuff …

What happened to telling a customer about the guitar’s wood , tone & sound ? What happened to testing the guitar before the price ?

What happened to asking me , what music do i play and find a guitar that suits me ? What happened to finding out who your customers are?

Sometimes , it is important to learn from shops like this . You may not know how to do it , but you know WHAT NOT to do . Music Master will never be like that .

Its like learning something in life , sometimes you learn much more from people who failed …than people who are very successful .

So yeah , in conclusion …its a great place to buy the stuff that you WANT …but if you’re just window shopping ..forget it

Selection of gear , 8 out of 10 . Will pawn Bentley Malaysia , Singapore , Taiwan …
